John Barnes’ Myofascial Release Approach ® a Different Experience
If you’ve been feeling like your body has been or is holding onto old injuries, stress, grief, or just the weight of daily life, you’re not imagining it. It’s very real. I’ve talked about many times in previous blog post, and in workshops I facilitate, “our bodies carry our stories.” Sometimes our bodies give us gentle reminders of what they are carrying, and other times they drop us a like brick. Myofascial Release (MFR) is one of my favorite ways to help people connect and witness to those stories, and then help them to gently let them go.
MRF work is different than massage as it focuses on the fascial network which is a stretchy, web-like tissue that wraps around your muscles, bones, and organs and even our cells. It is abundant in all of our structures. When it’s healthy, it moves easily and fluidly. But life happens. Injuries, emotional stress, posture habits, diet/hydration or illness can make the fascia tighten and harden. That’s when movement becomes restricted, pain lingers, and the body starts feeling heavier than it should.
I specialize in the John F. Barnes’ Myofascial Release® approach, a gentle yet powerful method that uses slow, sustained pressure to help the fascia unwind and soften. This isn’t about forcing your body to change, it’s about creating the right conditions for it to remember its natural state of being. The work is quiet and deeply intentional. Clients often notice warmth, tingling, or even a wave of emotional release. Many leave feeling lighter, more open, and deeply connected to themselves in a way they haven’t felt in a long time. The releases that happen can occur on a physical, emotional, or energetical level, with the client not needing to attach meaning to or understanding of why, but rather who the body/mind heals and moves forward.
I’ve been practicing various forms MFR for many years, weaving it into my 13+ years as a massage therapist and over 20 years as an energy healer. However, the Barns Method of Myofascial Release® revolutionized my approach to the work, allowing for the combination of physical and energetic awareness that allows me to meet clients where they are, whether they’re managing chronic pain, recovering from injury, dealing with scar tissue, or processing emotional trauma. In this work we let the body lead, following your nervous system, and something we call the “fascial voice”, which is the wisdom of the fascial network to guide us in each session which by nature is then uniquely tailored to you.
This is more than bodywork; it’s an invitation to come home to yourself. In my space, you’re met without judgment and with the intention of creating safety, comfort, and release of the physical, emotional, and energetical stagnation. You don’t have to push through the pain. You don’t have to live with the tension. You deserve to feel good and safe in your body.
If you feel ready to soften on many levels, be supported in releasing what your body/mind is ready to let go of, and move with more ease, I’d love to work with you. Book your Myofascial Release® session today, and let’s help your body remember its brilliance.
